Seminar on ‘History of Gujjars & Bakarwals of J&K State’ begins

JAMMU, Mar 25: Three day national seminar on ‘History of Gujjars and Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir State’, organized by the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, University of Jammu, began here today.
The inaugural session was presided over JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Shrama.  Masud Choudhary, former Vice Chancellor of BGSBU Rajouri and chief patron of Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust and    Zaffar Ali, Vice Chairman, Advisory Board for the Development of Gujjar and Bakarwals, were the guests of honour on the occasion.
Zafar Choudhary, senior journalist, delivered the key note address highlighting the history and culture and other issues of Gujjars and Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir State.
Masud Choudhary narrated the primary sources of history of Gujjars and Bakarwals.  Zaffar Ali spoke on life and conditions of the Gujjars and Bakarwals in historical perspective.
Prof R D Sharma, in his presidential address, highlighted the significance of the seminar and also spoke on the Gujjar and Bakarwal students in Higher Education particularly in the University of Jammu. He further highlighted the socio-economic contribution of Gujjar and Bakarwals to the socio-economic development in Jammu and Kashmir State.
Earlier, Professor Jigar Mohammed, Director, CSSEIP, presented a formal welcome address.
The vote of thanks was presented by Dr Madhulika Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of History, JU. The overall proceedings of the inaugural function were managed by Ainee Ambreen.
The first Technical Session of the seminar was presided by Prof Shailendra Singh Jamwal, HoD History. In this session, seven papers were presented.
The second technical session was presided by Prof Renu Nanda, HOD Education and seven papers were presented by the scholars.
The third and fourth sessions were held in Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust and presided over by Dr Rachna Sharma, Asst  Prof  GNDU Amritsar and Prof  Falendra K  Sudan, HOD, Economics. Eight papers were presented in these sessions.
