JAMMU, Mar 5: To promote music in Jammu and Kashmir UT, noted composer and singer Seema Anil Sehgal shall be imparting training in music through the newly formed “Jammu & Kashmir Institute of Art and Culture (JKIAC).”
Seema is the only singer from Jammu to attain coveted Top Grade in music from the Government of India.
“There is plenty of talent in the Dogra Land. This talent needs to be recognised and channelised through proper training. Our Institute shall be providing this vital platform for training to the aspiring and budding artists”, says Seema who herself is a disciple of one of the greatest classical vocalist, Gaan Saraswati Kishori Amonkar, decorated with a Padma Vibhushan award.
“The institute aims to promote and propagate all the languages and art forms. We are as much committed to Dogri as Punjabi, Gojri, Hindi, Urdu, or English.These are the languages enshrined in the cultural policy of Jammu & Kashmir,” says Squadron Leader Anil Sehgal, patron of the Institute.
JKIAC shall be holding seminars, conferences, and music concerts in all the languages of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
It will also aim at imparting education in music and other art forms, firstly in Jammu and, thereafter in other parts of the Union Territory as well.
