Secy RDD visits Budgam, takes stock of development works

Srinagar, Oct 19: As a part of the two-day long ‘My Town, My Pride’ programme, the Secretary to Government, Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Sheetal Nanda today visited Municipal Council, Budgam to take stock of development works.
The unique programme aims at providing governance at the doorsteps in urban areas on the pattern of the successful ‘Back to Village’ programme.
During the visit, the designated officer interacted with councillors, frontline workers, and local inhabitants who appraised her of the developmental works that need to be taken up in the town. Various public delegations called on the Secretary and sought early redressal of their grievances such as, road connectivity, macadamisation of roads, street lights, drainage facilities etc.
The Secretary inaugurated several development works including Community Sanitary Complex worth Rs. 13.59 lakh at old bus depot, Budgam and a badminton court at Girls Higher Secondary School, Budgam and laid foundation stone for Community Hall worth Rs 2.80 cr and a Library cum Indoor Stadium Complex.
She also distributed certificates among the specially abled youth who had participated in the cricket tournament held between specially abled teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Nanda said, “The ongoing programme aims to redress public grievances by their own people like Municipal Councillors. It has three main objectives — public outreach in towns, service delivery at doorsteps, strengthening grassroot democracy. ” She urged people to come forward and participate in these outreach programmes for the quick redressal of their grievances. “Programmes like B2V and the ongoing My Town, My Pride are launched to improve the public service delivery.”
