Secy Forest visits Chenab region, reviews forestry related works

JAMMU, Oct 10: Commissioner Secretary, Forest, Ecology and Environment Sanjeev Verma along with Dr Mohit Gera, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) & HoFF undertook two-day extensive tour of Chenab region via Synthan top to review various forestry related ongoing works.
They first reached the Rajpariyan Wildlife Sanctuary, Daksum and interacted with the field staff of Wildlife department and stressed on the conservation of the diverse flora and fauna existing in the sanctuary and also understand the issue of human-wildlife conflict in the area.
During the onward journey towards Synthan top, they assessed the degradation of slope in southern aspect. Sanjeev Verma directed the field functionaries to plan for the restoration of degraded slope and plantation of native species like Juniper, Rhododendron and other medicinal plant species. The Conservator of Forests, South Circle and Divisional Forest Officer, Anantnag Forest Division briefed the Commissioner about climatic and edaphic factors of the area and challenges.
In Marwah Forest Division, they evaluated the efforts for conservation of Rare, Endangered and Threatened (RET) taxa Bhojpatra (Betulautilis). They directed to increase the efforts for conservation of this species in coming years in this region. They also inspected the forest nursery in Chingam area and directed for increasing the stock of saplings for future plantation.
On 2nd day of the tour, they visited the Batote and Ramban Forest Divisions. In the course of journey they assessed the success of Command Area Treatment (CAT) works in Doda area along Chenab River. Verma directed to treat the remaining open area in similar fashion. They also inspected the slope stabilization works along National Highway and directed to treat the other vulnerable spots to restore the greenery and stabilization of slopes along the highway.
During their visit Irfan Ali Shah, CF South Circle, Dr Jitendra Kumar Singh, CF Chenab Circle, Mohammad Ramzan, DFO Anantnag, Vijay Kumar, DFO Marwah, Sagar Singh, DFO Kishtwar, Chander Sekhar, DFO Bhaderwah, Kuldeep Singh, DFO Batote, Rajan Singh, DFO Ramban, MazidKitchloo, WLW Kishtwar, Rouf Zargar WLW South and other field staff accompanied them.
