JAMMU, Sept 4: General Officer Commanding (GOC), Nagrota based 16 Corps Lt Gen RR Nimbhorkar said today that Security Grid is firmly placed on the Line of Control (LoC) in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri and troops were fully alive to the situation to thwart infiltration attempts by the militants from across the LoC.
The Army Commander said troops were maintaining high state of alert all along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts and they have not allowed any infiltration attempt to succeed. “Even the infiltration attempts made during recent heavy shelling and firing on the LoC have been foiled,” he added.
“The security grid on the Line of Control (LoC) is firmly in place and infiltration will not be easy for the militants,” the GOC 16 Corps said in a brief inter-action with reporters on infiltration, ceasefire violations, security situation and ISIS footprints on the sidelines of cycle expedition here this afternoon.
“As far as infiltration is concerned, we are quite vigilant on LoC and the fence. I do not think it will be so easy to infiltrate,” Lt Gen R R Nimbhorkar said.
“The security grid is in place and our troops are geared up for any kind of the eventuality. We are strong and well equipped to deal with any situation,” the GOC said.
Asked whether the firing and ceasefire violation by Pakistan is aimed at aiding infiltration by militants, he said it is the modus operandi which Pakistan undertakes as far as infiltration of militants is concerned.
On the general security situation along the border and internal areas, Lt Gen Nimbhorkar said “the (security) situation is alright. There is no criticality”.
As far as escalation in ceasefire violations is concerned, he said it is difficult to answer. “As far as military point of view is concerned, I cannot find any reason behind escalation in border skirmishes. We would have to do much more analysis to find the reason,” he said.
Asked whether the expanding footprint of ISIS in PoK and other regions is a concern, the Army officer said it is a concern all over the world. “The international community is aware of danger it poses,” he added.
Recently, there had been series of ceasefire violation along the LoC in Balakote, Hamirpur, Shahpur, Kirni, Krishna Ghati, Manjakote and other areas in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Six civilians were killed and over 20 others were injured in heavy shelling by the Pakistan army during ceasefire violations. Indian Army had also inflicted heavy damages on Pakistan side in retaliation.
Sources said there have been reports with the Army that a large number of militants were camping on Pakistan side of the LoC awaiting for opportunities to sneak into the Indian side. However, the Army has foiled all designs of the militants and the Pakistan army.
