SOLAPUR, May 14: Daughter of Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Praniti Shinde, MLA, today stated that security coverage was not needed for her family.
Sources said Praniti had written a letter to the Home Minister and the Director General of Police of Maharashtra seeking withdrawal of the Z and Y plus security coverage which was being provided to her and Mrs Ujwala Shinde.
She said the security deployed for their family was as per the protocol, but was not used by them, adding that the Government could utilise the security given to their family for those who really require its, or should use the personnel for better assignments.
There are around 52 security personnel giving cover to the Union Home Minister and his daughter Praniti, who is an MLA of the Maharashtra State assembly, which comes under Z Plus category. Apart from that, 14 more security personnel are covering Mrs Ujwala Shinde, which is graded as Y Plus category.
Throughout Maharashtra, 812 security personnel are deployed for various political and non-political persons, among whom Union Home Minister Shinde, Governor K Shankarnarayan, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, Dy CM Ajit Pawar, state Home Minister RR Patil, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Praniti fall in Z Plus category.
A total of 12 people in the state who hold Z Plus Security cover, of which around 46 personnel are deployed for the chief minister, 31 for the Dy CM, and 25 for Chhagan Bhujbal who holds a cabinet rank. (UNI)
