JAMMU, May 2: Secretary Higher Education Department, Hemant Kumar Sharma, today inspected the ongoing works under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) during an extensive tour of the city colleges of Jammu.
Presently construction works under RUSA are in progress at GGM Science College, Jammu, Govt College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Govt College of Education, Govt MAM College and Govt SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu as a part of cluster university.
The Secretary issued on the spot instruction to the executing agencies to complete the work at the earliest besides ensuring the quality of works. He emphasized that classrooms, labs, libraries, hostel, toilet blocks, ramps, canteen etc. should have proper interior management of the space for its optimum utilization. He instructed the officials to prepare a comprehensive site plan of the Colleges to see the flow and movements of students, staff and other visitors. The Secretary also asked the officials to have cost analysis of having elevators and ramps.
In some of the buildings, Secretary emphasized that there is a need to bring changes in the internal layout of the classrooms and labs for effective teaching learning process. Since the infrastructures being created in different institutions are for post graduate courses in Material Sciences, Applied Science and Technology, Commerce and Management, humanities and Teacher Training Programmes, it must match the basic requirement of the programmes. The Secretary further emphasized that available infrastructure and resources in different colleges should also be used for the cluster university both for academic and extension activities.
Director RUSA, Nodal Principal, Jammu, Principals of various Colleges, Engineers from RUSA and PWD and other officials accompanied the Secretary in the review process of academics and infrastructure of various Colleges of Jammu under RUSA.
