JAMMU, Apr 23: To mark the World Book Day, Department of Libraries and Research today organised a book exhibition and took out an awareness march from the SRS Library Complex at Kachi Chawni..
The book exhibition was inaugurated by Dilshada Khan, Secretary Culture.
In this book exhibition some rare manuscripts, rare books and bestseller books of great literary and cultural value were exhibited.
Hundreds of library professionals working in various public libraries in Jammu Division participated in the march which was first of its kind in the history of the department. Staff of Government High School and Government Middle School, Kachi Chawni also participated in the march.
The Secretary Culture on the occasion said that the objective for observing the World Book Day was to revive book reading culture in the State and to make aware people in general about the availability of library facility.
The Director, Libraries & Research Mukhtar-ul-Aziz, while addressing the participants highlighted the importance of the day and said that library professionals have great role to play in spreading awareness amongst general public.
A day-long exhibition of rare books and manuscripts was also organized by Deputy Directorate of Libraries & Research, Kashmir at SPS Library.
The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, inaugurated the exhibition and lauded the work of the organizers.
Deputy Director Libraries & Research Kashmir, Ahmad Hussain, said the aim of the holding such exhibitions is to attract people to Libraries He said there are about 79 Government libraries in Kashmir division and from this year books related to competitive exam will also be added to the collection of books to facilitate the students.
