Season’s first snowfall in Valley

SRINAGAR, Oct 6: The chilly weather conditions have intensified as the upper reaches in Kashmir valley, including Sinthon top, received first snowfall of the season while the skies were cloudy in the plains.
A MeT department official said that light to moderate rain would occur during the next 24 hours in Kashmir under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region.
However, he said that they are finding it difficult to gather information from other districts and far off places due to a gag on communication.
Skies were cloudy at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in South Kashmir, resulting in chilly weather conditions. However, the upper reaches in the health resort received the first snowfall of the season. Sheshnag and the peripheral areas of Amarnath holy cave shrine also received first snowfall of the season late last night.
Sinthon top and adjoining areas in South Kashmir also received light snowfall last night, resulting in chilly weather conditions.
After witnessing normal temperature, people woke up to a chilly Sunday morning in the summer capital, Srinagar, where people could be seen wearing sweaters and jackets to evade chill. “The minimum temperature recorded in the city was 8.6 degree, which is the normal temperature for this time of the year,” he said.
However, he said the maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was about 3 degree below normal in Srinagar. (UNI)
