Srinagar, Feb 4: Security forces this evening launched a massive search operation in a village in South Kashmir district of Pulwama after militants fired several gun shots.
Panic gripped Gadoora area of Pulwama district this evening after Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and Army started searches following some gunshots in the area.
Sources said that SOG and Army’s 55 RR laid a cordon around Harpora village in Gadoora area of Pulwama district this evening after militants fired some gun shots.
The Army and police conducted searches of the village but no one was arrested. The searches were later called off.
Sources, however, said that it is believed that two militants were hiding in the village and they fled as soon as security forces arrived there.
Pulwama over the past few months has seen lot of militant movement and security forces have intensified patrolling in the district to put pressure on them.
Last week security forces in a joint operation killed a local militant at Kangan village in Pulwama while another militant slipped out of the security cordon.
The militant Aijaz Ahmed Bhat son of Jalaludin Bhat resident of Charsoo Pulwama belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed after he and his colleague opened fire on security forces in the village which led to the operation.
