JAMMU, Feb 4: Continuing with the process of reviewing and resolving various development related issues, the J&K team led by Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khanday held detailed discussions through a video conference with the central team led by Secretary (Coordination) Cabinet Secretariat here today.
Substantial progress was made in clearing out development related issues and the discussions will continue further on February 5.
The sectors that came up for discussion during the meeting included Power, Water Resources, Road Transport and Highways, Environment & Forests, Civil Aviation, Railways, Tourism, IT etc.
Secretaries of various Union Ministries were present in the meeting besides Principal Secretary Planning and Development, B. R. Sharma, Principal Secretary Home, Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Principal Secretary Power, A. K. Mehta, Administrative Secretaries and other senior officers.
The State Government sought greater central support in its effort to reduce AT&C and T&D losses and completion of various hydel projects. It also sought central assistance for construction of Mughal Road tunnel at Pir Ki Gali to make it an all weather highway.
During the deliberations, issues related to utilization of water from river Ravi, Jhelum Drainage & Flood Management Plan, Conservation and Management of Lakes, National Highway Project, upgradation & extension of Jammu Airport, operationalization of night time flights and development of small airports etc were discussed.
While the Central Team asked the State Government to fast track implementation of various ongoing schemes, it assured full support to the State Government in achieving its development related goals. The Central Team also assured that matters agreed upon during the deliberations will be pursued further with Union Ministries for prompt action.
