In search of revival, Rahul to address rally in run up to MCD polls

NEW DELHI, Mar 6:
Desperate for a revival in Delhi, where it ruled for continuous 15 years, but humbled in 2013 and 2015 Assembly elections, the Delhi Congress is planning big for campaign for the ensuing MCD elections.
“As part of the strategy, we have a rally tomorrow at Ram Lila ground essentially targeted at workers and groups and individuals recommended by ground level workers,” a party leader said.
The campaign theme for the rally and for the 272-member MCD elections – likely to be held in April – will be “Bahane nahi, Karenge Vikas (No excuse, we will bring real development)” and “Anubhav hae Hamare paas (We have the experience to deliver),” sources said.
The rally tomorrow will be addressed, among others, by Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. “The workers likely to attend are based on the recommendations of party leaders from different municipal wards from across the city.
The feedback of the workers will be made use of while distribution of tickets,” the source said. The city Congress leaders would also launch ‘padyatra’ (footmarch) across different wards from March 8. “For MCD polls, we believe in low key door-to-door campaign,” another party source said.
The party is also bringing out a ‘blue print’ for fiscally self-reliant Delhi Municipal Corporations.  Congress, under Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, ruled over Delhi from 1998-2013 but was voted out of power in December 2013 polls.
Ms Dikshit also had lost her New Delhi seat to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. In 2014 Lok Sabha polls and also in subsequent Delhi Assembly polls in February 2015, the Congress suffered a humiliating defeat.
It failed to open its account in both Parliamentary polls and state Assembly polls of 2015.  From time to time, party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has been meeting party leaders from three BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations and taking their inputs for revamping the party position. (UNI)
