RAJOURI, Mar 2: The District Administration Rajouri and even the PDP-BJP dispensation seems to be in ‘sleeping mode’ as the office of Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) is lying locked for the last four consecutive days at Thannamandi while indefinite day-night protest dharna is continued in the SDM office complex in the town.
The protest demonstration and dharna is going on in Thannamandi town for the last seven days and today again entire market remained closed and people blocked road for about three hours to lodge their protest, but during last one week of trouble neither concerned Deputy Commissioner nor the SSP or even the DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range have visited this troubled town during this period.
Strong resentment is brewing among the local people from Thannamandi Sub Division against the PDP-BJP Government, concerned MLA Qamar Choudhary, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri Shabir Ahmed Bhat and SSP Suleman Choudhary.
Today, while intensifying their agitation, a large number of people came out on the road and took out a protest march in the main market. The Bazaar also remained closed during the day as a mark of protest. Later, the people sat on a dharna on the road at Shahdara Chowk and stalled the movement of vehicles from 12 noon to 3 pm. They were raising loud slogans against the District Administration, State Government and the Chief Minister.
The people irrespective of their party affiliations have joined the protest demonstration. Several local leaders addressed the gathering and strongly condemned the Coalition Government. They alleged that there was no governance visible on the ground and the District Administration was sleeping over the issue.
They alleged that agitation is going on for the last one week and SDM office is also lying closed but DC and SSP are least bothered. They strongly condemned the attitude of Government. They said only ADC came to the town four days ago when new SDM, MA Mirza had come to join the office but he got trapped here. The MLA had given assurance that Qayoom Mir, (ACD Defence) will be restored as SDM Thnannamandi but he too, has disappeared after “false assurance”.
Today, Qayoom Mir went to Thannamandi town along with newly posted SDM MA Mirza. Qayoom went to dharna site and requested the agitating people to open the office but the people refused to listen to his pleas. Newly posted SDM Mirza however, did not come there and remained at Tehsil office but they both returned to Rajouri in the afternoon. The people got more agitated over this and they decided to launch fast unto death strike from tomorrow at the same venue.
