JAMMU, Sept 17: SDM Marh Rajeev Khajuria convened a meeting of all members of PRIs of Marh and Officers of 14 line departments to review the functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions at grass root level, plug gaps and strengthening the coordination between PRIs and line departments, here today.
About 29 subjects have been placed at the disposal of PRIs. He conveyed to all members that it is policy of J&K UT administration led by Chief Secretary J&K under the command and guidance of LG J&K to devolve powers and strengthen the working institution /functioning of PRIs.
He issued instructions to BDO Marh and other Block officers of all line departments to direct their respective field functionaries to attend Panchayat meetings/ Gram Sabha at block level regularly to create maximum awareness about all the schemes and formulate plans and then send to block level so that a needful recommendation will be passed to District Planning Committee for approval.
All the PRI members appreciated this effort of SDM and maintained that this is the first such meeting organised at block level in which PRI members and Officers of line departments discussed face to face about their departments’ functioning.
The SDM assured them that such Sub Divisional level meetings shall be organised every month to strengthen all the three tiers of PRIs especially at grass root level.
BDC chairman Surinder Kumar and DDC member Marh Balbir Raj were also present on the occasion and spoke in depth about issues faced by PRIs.
