Srinagar, May 11: Even after the passage of 5 years since the establishment of Blood Bank at the Sub District Hospital, Sopore, in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, it is yet to be registered and is running illegally thus putting lives of the patients at risk.
The Blood Bank is functioning in the hospital since 2014; but the administration has been sluggish in getting it certified despite continuous inspections conducted by National Aids Control Organization (NACO).
The Blood Bank is illegally functioning without the requisite registration as of now. They are carrying on with the blood transfusions every day risking the lives of the people. This has raised questions over the callousness and lack of seriousness by the hospital administration.
The NACO has conducted several insp-ections of the Blood Bank since 2014, every time various que-ries were raised by the experts, whi-ch has led to delaying the entire process.
The hospital administration, however, said that this time, they have put all the requisites in place in order to get it registered. But the track-record revealed that every time an inspection was conducted, further queries were raised, resulting in the delay.
Block Medical Officer (BMO), Sopore, Dr Samiullah, admitted that there has been a delay in getting the Blood Bank registered. “We have now put all the requirements in place and they are expecting to get it done soon”, he said.
“There was a considerable delay in the process. We are expecting another inspection within 20 days, while we have put in place whatever was required, we are expecting that this time it will be done,” he said.
He added that due to incompletion of the new hospital building which has been undertaken by the JKPCC is one of reasons that the registration was delayed.
“Apart from having technical issues, there were few issues pertaining to the space as well, we have, as of now, arranged the space, while we have been assured that the building will be handed over in June,” he added.
While commenting on the issue of delay that the registration of Blood Bank has witnessed, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Baramulla Dr Bashir Ahmad Chalkoo told Excelsior that there was a need of having infrastructure and manpower in place and that took time.
“There were few gaps that were continuously pointed out by the concerned agencies, we have now done our best and have fulfilled all the gaps. We are expecting to get it done soon as the next inspection is also scheduled to take place within weeks,” he said.
