SRINAGAR, Oct 2:  In wake of renewed threat of H1N1 influenza, the Private Schools United Front today urged the Government to prepare for any eventuality and ensure the availability of enough vaccines for people especially students who comprise of a high risk group.
The front asked the Government to draft a plan to ensure foolproof protection for everyone during the coming season when the threat of flu increases. “Last year the Government was caught sleeping when the H1N1 influenza spread. They even ordered the closure of schools and coaching centres which resulting in loss of many workdays,” the president of Front, GN Var said.
“This year they have enough time and they should utilise it to prepare a foolproof plan to meet any eventuality. The first priority should be to get enough vaccines for high risk groups like children and elderly persons. Government should stock up supplies so that every student and people of high risk group is vaccinated beforehand,” he said.
He said the Government should not live by hope of zero cases of H1N1 influenza and instead put a backup plan in place. “It would be great if the virus doesn’t come back this year, but the doctors and experts have expressed their apprehension. So Government has to be prepared especially the Education Department which has lakhs of students on its roll,” said Var, adding, “we should hope for the best but one should also prepare for the worst.”
