Srinagar, Mar 1: All schools across Kashmir Valley today reopened after more than two month-long winter break.
The Valley schools were closed last year on December 24 on the account of annual winter-break and reopened today. It was for the first time in several years that the schools reopened on time as weather remained largely dry compared to past.
Since early morning, school children dressed in multi-colour uniforms were seen rushing towards their respective institutes. The children expressed happiness over rejoining their schools after the winter-break.
“I am happy that my school reopened after so long. I was eagerly waiting as I will be meeting with my friends and teachers,” said Muhammad Moosa, a student of Ist standard, who was waiting for his school bus in a downtown neighbourhood this morning.
With reopening of schools upto secondary level, the city witnessed intermittent traffic jam on busy routes particularly Lal Chowk in morning and evening as school buses and cabs plied through these routes.
Jammu and Kashmir Teachers’ Forum chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani said besides private schools all the Government institutes also reopened across the Valley. “Yes, all schools reopened and teachers also joined their duties,” he said.
