Students welcomed in special morning assemblies

JAMMU, May 15: All Government as well as private schools in border areas of Jammu division, which are still closed since last week Indo-Pak military stand-off, shall re-open from May 19, 2025.

An order in this regard was issued today by the Directorate of School Education, Jammu.
The Zonal Education Officers concerned shall ensure that all institutions under their jurisdiction adhere strictly to the guidelines issued by the School Education Department and other relevant authorities regarding the safety and well-being of students and staff.
“Head of Institutions are directed to ensure the resumption of academic activities in a smooth and orderly manner, and to maintain regular coordination with the local Administration & Law Enforcement Agencies,” reads the order.

Pertinent to mention that most of the schools in border districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch were reopened today following restoration of normalcy. However, schools close to the Indo-Pak border are still closed and as per today’s order, these shall re-open from May 19, 2025.
On Wednesday, the Directorate of School Education had issued an order detailing the reopening plan based on local security assessments. Joint Director Subah Mehta’s order outlined which zones in each district would reopen and which would remain closed.
In Jammu district, schools in Arnia, Bishnah, R S Pura, Miran Sahib, Satwari, Marh, Akhnoor, Jourian, and Khour zones were kept continuously closed due to prevailing conditions. However, schools in Chowki Choura, Bhalwal, Dansal, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and Purmandal were re-opened today.
In Samba district, schools in the zones of Samba, Ramgarh, and Ghagwal remained closed while those in Purmandal and Vijaypur zones were re-opened today.
In Kathua district, schools in Marheen and Hiranagar zones are still closed while schools in Barnoti, Lakhanpur, Sallan, Ghagwal, and Kathua zones re-reopened today.
In Rajouri district, schools in the zones of Manjakote, Doongi, Nowshera, Dandesar, Sunderbani, Rajouri, and Baljrarallan are still closed while those in Peeri, Kalakote, Thannamandi, Moghla, Kotrenka, Khawas, Lower Hathal, and Darhal were reopened.
Similarly in Poonch district, schools in Mankote, Mendhar, Balakote, Harni, Nangali, Mandi, Kanuyian, Sathra, and Poonch remained closed while class work recommenced in Surankote and Buffliaz, where it was deemed safe to do so.
Meanwhile, re-opening of most of schools after an eight-day closure following heightened Indo-Pak tensions, brought a sense of relief to students, teachers, and parents across the region. Students in these schools were welcomed with special morning assemblies focusing on peace and safety.
