School ransacked over student’s suicide

JAMMU, Nov 26: Upset over the suicide of a student, the parents and relatives ransacked the furniture and broke the window panes of a private school at Rajpura Magotrian, here today.
As per police sources, the parents and relatives of a boy, who allegedly committed suicide at his residence few days back, entered the Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School, Rajpura Mangotrian and ransacked the furniture and broke window panes.
The protesters also had argument with Principal of the institution and staff members. Minor scuffle also took place between the protestors and the school authorities.
The protesters alleged that due to attitude of the Principal, their kin committed suicide and demanded action against the Principal.
After getting information, police team led SHO Bakshi Nagar Inspector Ashwani Kumar rushed to the spot.
Later, SP City North Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan also reached the spot and pacified the protestors after assuring them appropriate action if anyone will be found guilty behind the suicide of the boy.
When contacted, SP City North Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan confirmed the incident of the ransacking. “We are investigating the case and if anyone will be found guilty, strict action will be initiated against him/her”, he asserted.
As reported, a class XI student of Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School, Rajpura Mangotrian namely Aman Sharma, son of late Vijay Sharma, a resident of Lane No 16, Rajpura, Jammu, allegedly committed suicide at his residence on November 24 evening. However, the incident came to light late night.
The boy allegedly took the extreme step after the Principal of his school namely Suri asked him to bring his parents to school, as he had proposed a girl student of the same school. The girl approached the Principal and lodged a complaint against Aman.
Principal called Aman to his office chamber and asked him to bring his parents to school the next day. After going home, Aman locked himself in the storeroom and hanged himself from a ceiling fan.
As nobody was in the house at the time of incident the matter remained hidden and came to light only when family members came to house in the evening and searched him.
Finding him hanged, the body of the boy was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where after conducting autopsy, it was handed over to family members for last rites.
A case in this regard stands registered with Bakshi Nagar police station and investigation into the case is going on.
