Scholarship Day celebrated at MIET

JAMMU, May 17: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) Jammu celebrated Scholarship Day at its Kot Bhalwal campus to honour students who were beneficiaries of the merit-based scholarships for the year 2021-22, here today.
Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. He distributed the institute scholarship cheques of Rs 11 lakhs among 61 1st year students. It is pertinent to mention that MIET has provided scholarships of Rs 55 lakhs to its students in the financial year 2021-22.
Prof Naresh Padha in his address congratulated the students for receiving scholarships of the Institute and encouraged them to continue performing with zeal and passion and aspire for bigger achievements in the time to come. He also lauded the MIET leadership team for placing student interests first and appreciated the various efforts undertaken for student development.
He also delivered a talk on recent advances in electronics and communications as it was also the ‘World Telecommunication and Information Society Day’. He outlined the top technical domains where India and the young technical students need to focus on for India to become “Atmanirbhar” as per the vision of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. These included solid state devices, chip fabrication, Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, electric/hybrid vehicles, smart grids and renewable energy and relentless focus on skill development and entrepreneurship.
Earlier, Prof Ankur Gupta, Director MIET welcomed Prof Padha and other dignitaries and outlined the importance of supporting student aspirations through merit and needs based scholarships.
He also outlined several new student-centric initiatives in the pipeline including launching of cloud-based labs for students providing access to custom hardware/software to provide world-class lab experience.  Recently, Dataquest magazine had ranked MIET 51st in India in the Top-100 Tech-enabled colleges.
Other dignitaries including Major General (Retd) Prof SK Sharma, Director Academics, Prof GS Sambyal, Prof Ashok Aima, Dr Arun K Gupta and many others were present during the event.
