Scheme for irrigating orchards in offing: Taj

SRINAGAR, Sept 8: Terming horticulture as a major source of employment in the State, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj Mohi-ud-Din today said that the Government is making scheme for irrigating orchards and Karewas in the State. He said DPR of these schemes are being made which would be submitted to Centre for funding.
Addressing public meetings at Shirpora and Yaal in Pattan area, the Minister said that Government is seized of the problem of unemployment in the State. He said since every youth can’t be given a government job, industry and private sector need to be encouraged. He said horticulture sector has the potential of providing job avenues at massive scale once developed properly. He said once the orchid irrigations scheme is executed on the ground, not only would huge employment avenues open for youth but it would strengthen the State economy in a big way by increase in returns of fruit.
Mr. Taj said present Government has taken a number of steps for the socio economic development of the State. He said the Government’s keen desire is to seek development of all regions benefitting people across all shades.
Responding to the local demands, the Minister announced modernization of Yaal canal, adding that soon the DPR would be prepared which would be placed in the next Technical Advisory Committee meeting of the Department. He also directed stabilization and improvement of the local spring which provides drinking water to the village. He also said that work on Shirpora reservoir and distribution network would start soon.
The Minister also laid the foundation stone of water supply scheme Shirpora which would be built at a cost of Rs. 1.45 crore and it would benefit around 5000 souls in the area.
Earlier on his way to Pattan, the Minister inspected the ongoing water supply scheme Singhpora Haratrath at Devar. The scheme is expected to cost Rs. 1.75 crore and it would benefit around 15,000 souls in the area.
