RAJOURI, Aug 9: Sinking of land has caused massive damage to a road and several crop fields of the people, creating a scare in Darhal tehsil of Rajouri district.
Official sources said that apparently due to torrential rains in the hilly areas of Rajouri district for the last few days, land sinking has come to the fore in two Darhal villages, which has caused a lot of damage to public land, crop fields and road. This sudden development has been noticed at Sokar and Prodi villages under Darhal tehsil of Rajouri for the last few days, due to which the road connecting the areas to the district headquarters has been cut off.
These villages have lost contact with the district headquarters and with this the people are facing a lot of problems. Not only road, the sinking of crop fields of the people has also caused extensive damage to the Villagers.
There is a panic in the area. The villagers are apprehending that this sinking of land may cause damage to their houses while in the sleep. Due to this fear, they are passing sleepless nights for the last couple of days. Some people have even sent their children to the houses of their relatives in other villages.
Former Sarpanch of Sokad village, Shabir Gorsi told that due to sinking of the road land, the movement of vehicles has been stopped, due to which people are facing difficulties in carrying the essential items used on daily basis. Not only this, cases of sinking of crop land of the people have also come to the fore at many places, due to which people are in panic and very upset. Expressing strong anger, he said that till now no action has been taken by the district administration.
When contacted Tehsildar Sahil Ali Shah said that he himself visited the spot and assessed the situation and in this regard, instructions have been issued to Imtiyaz Mir, Executive Engineer of Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana, to immediately repair the road and restore traffic from another road by removing the debris.
