Scarcity of insulin and other related drugs is troubling Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) hospital in Rainawari Srinagar which are central in treatment of diabetic patients. Patients are apprehensive of the problem remaining more or less the same due to the alleged mismanagement in the hospital. To lend credence to the claims of the Government about satisfactory supply to valley hospitals of such drugs, periodic inspections and stock verifications must be conducted. In fact, free supplies of medicines of critical nature are being given to the patients belonging to the BPL category who in some cases, have to purchase the same from the market.
Nearby leprosy colony inmates, who are complaining of diabetes frequently visit this hospital for usual check up and treatment and usually the medicines of critical nature meant for therapeutic purposes are either in short supply or not available at all. We, however, do not say that such type of medicines are not made available to them but erratic and irregular position in that needs to be set right. The authorities needed to look into the problem which is not that unmanageable.
