NEW DELHI, Jan 11: The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the proceedings against former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ashok Chavan in connection with the Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society scam case.
The scandal related to the bending of rules for allocation of flats in the posh real estate project in upscale Colaba. A division bench, headed by Justice Jasti Chelameshwar, granted the relief.
“We stay the proceedings against the petitioner in the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam case,” Justice Chelameshwar said after hearing from all the respective parties and respondents.
The Central Bureau of Investigation is the prosecuting agency in the case. It had contended that it will be filing a plea to challenge the December order of the Bombay High Court, which had quashed the sanction given by the Governor Vidyasagar Rao to prosecute Chavan. (UNI)
