NEW DELHI : SC issues showcause notice to Calcutta HC Judge C S Karnan after taking suo motu cognisance of its contempt. SC asks Justice Karnan to appear in person before it on Feb 13 & directs him to refrain from taking judicial and administrative work.
Justice Karnan is also directed to return all judicial and administrative files in his possession to Registrar General of Calcutta HC said SC.
SC asks its Registry to furnish copy of the order to Justice Karnan during the course of the day.
AG Mukul Rohatgi terms public communications of Justice Karnan as “slanderous” and “disparaging” to system of administration of justice.
We must be as careful as we can, says SC, adding that it has to be established whether Justice Karnan wrote those communications. (agencies)
