NEW DELHI : Supreme Court today deferred the hearing in the IPL spot-fixing case to Friday saying they needed more time to go through the voluminous report on the scam. The bench headed by Justice P S Thakur also sought an opinion on whether the IPL spot-fixing scam report should be made public. Judges including Faqir Muhammad and Ibrahim Kalifulla opined that the report being voluminous they needed more time to study it exhaustively.
Retired Punjab and Haryana Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal had submitted his final report to the Court last week. Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of ICC chief N Srinivasan is one of the main suspect in the scam.
The apex court has given the name of 13 players who will be investigated by the Justice Mudgal panel. Mr Srinivasan has been removed from the post of BCCI president by the apex court till his name is cleared. Former team India captain Saurav Ganguly and Editional solicitor General L Nageshwar Rao were among the members of the Mudgal panel. The report, according to the judges, is highly damaging for the game of cricket.
The report was submitted in sealed covers. Mr Srinivasan and his family members have stakes in IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings.
