JAMMU, Apr 24: Supreme Court Collegium has recommended appointment of Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal as Additional Judge of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for a fresh term of one year.
On February 21, 2024, the Collegium of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh made the recommendation for appointment of Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal as an Additional Judge for a fresh term, as no vacancy of Permanent Judge was available.
“In terms of the Memorandum of Procedure, we have consulted Judges of the Supreme Court who are conversant with the affairs of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh with a view to ascertain the fitness and suitability of Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal for appointment as Additional Judge for a fresh term”, the Supreme Court Collegium said.
A committee of two judges of the Supreme Court constituted by the Chief Justice of India in terms of the resolution dated October 26, 2017 of the Supreme Court Collegium assessed the judgments of Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal. The Committee has rated the quality of his judgments as “good”.

With a view to assess the merit and suitability of Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal for appointment as an Additional Judge for a fresh term, the Collegium has scrutinized and evaluated the material placed on record. Having regard to all the relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Additional Judge, is suitable for appointment as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for a fresh term.
“The Collegium resolves to recommend that Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal, Additional Judge, be appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for a fresh term of one year with effect from June 3, 2024”, read the resolution signed by Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud and Justice Sanjiv Khanna.
On June 1, 2022, President of India appointed Wasim Sadiq Nargal as Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for a period of two years with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
On June 3, 2022, the then Chief Justice of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Pankaj Mithal administered the oath of office to Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal at a ceremony held at the High Court complex.
Justice Nargal did his initial schooling from Dewan Badri Nath Vidya Mandir, Jammu and pursued graduation from GGM Science College, Jammu and LLB from the University of Jammu, following which he independently started his active practice from March 1991.
He was designated as a Senior Advocate by J&K High Court on 03.12.2020 and served as Senior Additional Advocate General of the J&K Home Department. He also served as the Standing Counsel for various departments of Government of India as well as the J&K Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Banks, Universities in addition to his own private practice, spanning over an illustrious legal practice of 31 years.
He also served as the Standing Counsel for University of Jammu, SKAUST-J, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri and Cluster University Jammu. Furthermore, he remained as a Senior Counsel for Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Union Public Service Commission, Food Corporation of India, J&K Public Service Commission, Service Selection Board, Sales Tax & Exercise Department, JK IMPA, General Administration Department and State Pollution Control Board.
