SBI encourages Micro Credit to Start-ups while PNB boosts opening more PMJDY accounts in WB

KOLKATA, Sept 4: The Pradhanmantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has so far helped 43.14 beneficiaries get banked under this scheme and has poured Rs 145,214.94 crore balance in the beneficiary accounts.
In West Bengal, 31, 307,662 beneficiaries have opened up their zero balance accounts at the rural or semi-urban centre bank branches, besides 10,830,915 others have been included under PMJDY at the urban or metro centre bank branches.
The total figure of the balance money in the beneficiary accounts is Rs 13, 794.23 crores till the end of the month of August this year.
The figure is a positive indication so far as the attempt of the Union Government to include the still unbanked people of the country under banking coverage.
Alok Pattnayak, Dy General Manager, State Bank of India (SBI), Kolkata, stated that the people residing in the rural areas need more support from banks especially those young entrepreneurs coming up with start-ups and SBI is in a relentless effort to support such people.
He also stated that SBI is continuously working to improve credit to the MSME sector, keeping in mind to drive the economy towards USD 5 trillion economy under ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’. Pattnayak stated that in West Bengal, the Bank has opened over 1.74 crore Jan Dhan accounts including 82 lakh women account holders. Bank has covered over 62.46 lakh accounts under the PMSBY (Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana) at a nominal annual premium of Rs.12/- and over 16 lakh under the PMJBY (Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojana) with an annual premium of Rs.330. Bank has also enrolled 9.39 lakh customers under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) Scheme.
Another banker Shri Dhruva Ghosh, who is a Senior Manager of Punjab National Bank (PNB), while speaking on the occasion, stated that the bank has created a record so far as financial inclusion is concerned. As of June 2020, the number of accounts opened up in the bank in West Bengal under PMJDY is 40783102. The amount of money deposited is Rs 13392.65crore crore. So far as Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) is concerned, the bank has profusely surpassed the previous year’s figure.
As of June 30, 2020, the new enrolment and yearly renewal cases stood at 2834953 (PMJJBY), 10658776 (PMSBY) and 1646159 (APY) respectively. This year, during the same period the figures stand as 3947227, 13965101 and 2414448 respectively.
SBI is promoting increase in credit to Micro enterprises directly as well as through Micro Finance Institutions (MFI) to help the marginal section and beneficiaries to engage themselves in sustainable economic generation activity to become Atmanirbhar, through various Govt Sponsored Schemes (GSS) and banks own customized products to cater to the need of MSME customers.
Under the Mudra Scheme, the Bank has financed about 46000 beneficiaries to the tune of 1082 crore in the state. Bank is also promoting Women/weaker sections for starting new economic activity/ventures through the SUI (Stand Up India) Scheme and has sanctioned close to 1000 such customers to the tune of 105 crs.
SBI is also pushing PMEGP, PMSVA Nidhi and several other GSS of the Central & State Government’s schemes through its strong branch channel of over 1400 branches in the State.
