Say ‘No’to Corruption

Sir,
This refers to the editorial’We the 76th’ (DE, Jan 30, 2016).It is really shocking that India, the land of sages and rishis figures at the 76 th rank in this year’s global corruption index, according to Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index 2015.Though it has improved its past year’s position of 83 and has a grade score of 38 which indicates the least corrupt,it is matter of shame that India lags far behind Denmark which is perceived to be the least corrupt country of the world. The advanced countries such as the USA,the UK, Finland, Sweden, Newzealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Singapore, Canada etc have occupied the top spots.Corruption is one of the major problems prevalent all over the world including India and it is shocking that no country in the world is corruption free.So far India is concerned, corruption has eaten into the vitals of the country and there have often been allegations of corruption against many politicians and the officers/employees of different departments. Corruption is a terrible blight which affects the economy of a country adversely and retards its development.
No doubt, the Union Government and the State Governments have established elaborate mechanism in the form of Central Vigilance Commission, Vigilance Organisation, Anti Corruption Courts etc to check the menace of corruption in the country, the demon of corruption continues to raise its head now and then. There have been movements such as ‘India agaist Corruption’ in India but this evil has not been curbed completely. There is urgent need to take immediate steps to check corruption. Special Anti Corruption Courts need to be strengthened to deal with the corruption cases in a quick manner and award exemplary punishment to those proved corrupt. People must be motivated to avoid giving or taking corruption and make use of RTI to get information about the projects/works where they feel some dishonest practices have taken place. Honest and upright officers who take steps to expose and curb corruption need to be rewarded.Last but not least,it is only the people of a country who can root out this evil from the Indian soil.
Yours etc….
