JAMMU, Oct 14: Former J&K Minister Yogesh Sawhney, District President Incharge Jammu (Urban) today asserted that recent political developments in Ladakh, seen as a sharp return gift to the BJP for the Article 370 revocation and statehood changes, would echo in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Congress leader was addressing the party workers here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Sawhney expressed his belief that Ladakh’s response to the Central Government’s actions could set a precedent for Jammu & Kashmir.
“Ladakh has clearly shown its stance and sent a strong message to the BJP for the way Article 370 and statehood were handled,” he said and added, “I am confident that the people of Jammu & Kashmir will also give a sharp reply to the BJP through their votes and collective actions.”
“While the Government argued that these moves would bring development and integration, we know that they were meant to undermine the region’s special status and autonomy,” he said.
The impending electoral developments and the decisions of the electorate will ultimately determine the course of the region’s political journey, Sawhney said, adding that majority of people will give a harsh reality check to BJP. The BJP, winning only 2 seats in Ladakh, shows that people are not ready to be wronged anymore.
The results in Ladakh serve as a reminder that public sentiment and local preferences can shape the political course, and that sentiment is against the BJP for ruining the opportunities for all sections of society in erstwhile state, he said.
The meeting was organised by Sardari Lal and Mannat Mehra, and attended by a diverse group of political activists, community leaders, and local residents, focused on the party’s goals for the region.
