Save water

Sir,
We often complain about non availability of potable water usually supplied through pipes by the PHE Department even if for a single day or two, the same is not made available due to reasons of any nature. But have we pointed out to the PHE Department about how many households are wasting this most precious natural source or how the depart’s pipes are found leaking or how departments, courts, schools etc. keep their water taps open only for water to be wasted and when needed most, say in scorching summers, take protest marches or block roads. Protests and road blocks are of course means to shake the administration but this scarce natural source, if stopped from getting wasted even by half would solve the problem of shortage to a larger extent.
Why is the department, its supervisory staff not making rounds of colonies and localities and fine those who want only misuse it or allow their tanks to overflow till the normal supply is not suspended for the day. Around offices, court complexes, closed shops etc would reveal during the supply hours the quantum of wastages, fines could be imposed which would not only discipline the erring households, offices etc but raise department’s revenue. It could be followed by installing of water metres. Our neighbour state Himachal Pradesh though blessed with water in abundance and Punjab likewise, are to face or are already facing water crisis because contamination is on the rise and at one point or the other water was not saved or stopped from getting wasted.  Let this situation not visit our Jammu and we all learn to save water as much as possible and the PHE must launch awareness campaign among the people in this direction.
Yours etc…
