Save Surya Putri

Sir,
Jammu’s Surya Putri Tawi River is as sacred as is Ganga. There used to be two Tawis-one less wide and deep as compared to  big one. It was quite deep and a big boat (called Mashua) used to ferry people from city side to Bahu Fort.  For nearly  six-seven decades no attention was paid to it resulting in the floods, carrying sand and small stones which got deposited in the bed and now there is some water for namesake. The top level of the river water is now helping big trucks to ply on it for carrying sand etc. It will not be long before when the river will be history worth the name.
To give it again a shape of river, digging has to be done for four-five feet, bulldozers put into action on war footing and the sand deposited on the sides. For it the work of digging to be carried from say Sidhra to a place just opposite Science College, where a lot of sand and small stones should be deposited from East to West Bank making a wall of about three to four feet. A brick wall also constructed to give support to the sand wall. Floods show us their face every year and thus a lake is automatically formed and the river goes on flowing for ever. It will give Jammu a new shape.
Similarly the Canal is also meeting the same fate. The water flow be stopped at its origin to clean it which is never done. This also needs some digging to give more depth. A canal tributary which passes through Nai Basti and Shastri Nagar needs more attention towards its depth and cleanliness. Our Dy Chief Minister along with his colleagues should give a lot of attention towards its cleanliness at Shastri Nagar Crematorium on Eastern Bank stands a temple.
Yours etc…
