Every developmental work entails one or the other effect on environment and ecology which requires replenishment of whatever measures possible. It is unfortunate that an entire village in Ramsoo area of Ramban is threatened as many houses have developed cracks and signs of sinking , all presumably due to the widening of the National Highway . Not only are the residents feeling threatened but the authorities seemingly are doing nothing in the matter which has made the residents nurse resentment and have threatened to adopt agitating ways to be heard.
The area concerned is Halbaghan in Ramsoo situated just adjoining the Jammu Srinagar National Highway. At least the district administration should have despatched a team of experts to see on the spot the causes of the wide cracks in their dwellings and assuaged the residents but so far nothing has been done. Not only the residential houses but vast chunks of land have developed cracks of threatening proportions. What if any house collapses, the consequences could be frightening which should be taken note of and before any such eventuality takes place, remedial action should be taken. We trust that the administration must be seized of the matter and panic or any rumour mongering should not be encouraged by the worried residents.
