JAMMU, Aug 12: To overcome the problems of over flowing of nullahs, State BJP vice-president and MLA, Sat Sharma today kick started the improvement work of existing nullahs in Sarwal and Colonel Colony (Talab Tillo) areas of Jammu West.
He was accompanied by UEED (Urban Environmental Engineering Department) officials, local residents besides political and social activists of the area.
The works will be done under the supervision of UEED Department at an estimated cost of around Rs 8 lakhs. The walls will be constructed in the nullahs and will be covered in order to channelize the flow of water passing through the same.
In a press statement issued, Sat Sharma (CA) said that the rainy season has affected many places in Jammu and there are few places in Jammu West too which were affected by the water from the recent heavy rains in the City.
He said that the construction of the walls in the nullahs and covering the same will help in channelizing the flow of water which will not affect the residents of the locality and the water from nullahs will not reach the homes of the people.
He also said the works of other Deep Drains in the Constituency will also be taken up soon and it is one of the priorities of the concerned department to overcome that problem. He also stated that DPRs have been sanctioned for Deep Drains including at Krishna Nagar and other areas where there is a dire requirement of constructing nullahs and the same will be dealt in a stipulated period of time.
AEE, UEED, Satish Sharma, AEE Surinder Raina, Mandal president, Ayodhya Gupta, Ex-Corporators Dinesh Gupta and Balwan Singh, State BJYM vice-president also accompanied the MLA.
