MENDHAR, May 14: Sarpanchs Association Mendhar has demanded filling up of posts of BDOs lying vacant in various blocks of district Poonch.
Talking to media persons here today, Showkat Choudhary, president of Sarpanch Association Mendhar expressed strong resentment against the Administrative Department of Rural Development authorities in J&K. He alleged that many posts of BDOs are lying vacant but the concerned Director and Commissioner /Secretary are least bothered to fill up the vacant posts. It has been learnt that this is not the case only in Poonch but in other districts as well same is the position.
Choudhary said that at least six Block Development Officers were shifted during last one year in Mendhar Sub Division only, resulting in huge set back to labourers and development of Panchayats as well. Mendhar block is the largest one in the district and no permanent BDO has been posted here for a long time. In the absence of BDO, the labourers who have undertaken various development works have to suffer a lot as they alleged that their issues were not being sorted out in the office. Many labourers have not been paid their MGNREGA payments since long.
He further alleged that in the absence of BDO the bills of the people/ contractors and other files biting dust in BDO’s office for long. Six 6 BDOs were posted and changed here but no one was sent to assume office permanently. As the BDO is head of the block and without his presence all works come to a halt, he added.
Sarpanchs Association Mendhar has urged the Lt Governor J&K Union Territory, GC Murmu to intervene personally and effect changes in the RDD from top to bottom as the things are not moving properly within the department for the last many months. It needs total over hauling of the system in the department. They said adhocism should be stopped and BDOs be posted in each block as one BDO is holding 3-4 charges in each district, which is highly unjustified.
Several other Sarpanchs including Wasim Khan and Shariq Khan were also present on the occasion.
