SAMBA, May 20: On the one hand the people are in the grip of Corona epidemic and on the other hand the sarpanches of block Sumb today staged a strong protest demonstration in front of the BDO office, Sumb for not getting the money for the work done under MGNREGA.
A large number of sarpanches along with people gathered in front of the Block Development Office, Sumb in district Samba and raised slogans against the Government. They alleged that the Department has failed to release the pending payment of the vendors for last three years. but the Government and Department did not take any initiative to given the pending payments of the MGNREGA works.
They further said that all the panchayats that have been worked on from 2017 to 2019 they have been completed on the ground, but no vendor has received the payment of that work till date, although there are many vendors who have put their material, but till date the payment has been not done.
Sarpanch Ranjit Singh said that they have got the work done for the last three years but till date we have not got the money of the material used for works. Although in context, we had met with Commissioner Secretary of the Department, Sheetal Nanda and requested her to release their pending payment, she assured that the pending payments will be released soon, but till date it has not been released.
They appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to look into the matter and release pending payments of MGNREGA works.
Among other those present including former Sarpanch, Ranjit Singh (Neetu) social worker, Balram Kundal, Kewal Singh Karan Singh Shamsuddin and Nazir Ahmed.
