JAMMU, Mar 4: Congress MLA from Inderwal, G M Saroori today demanded inquiry against former Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Baseer Ahmed Khan for denying relief and ration to the earthquake hit people.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Saroori said that following May 1, 2013 earthquake the Government kept an amount of Rs 14 crore at the disposal of Doda district administration and Rs 5 crore with Kishtwar district administration for providing compensation and free ration to the affected populace.
“Instead of providing relief and free ration to the earthquake affected people, the then Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Baseer Ahmed Khan challenged the list of affected persons and even returned Rs 5 crore to the Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Department”, Saroori regretted, adding “in this way the officer tried to rub the salt on the wounds of the natural calamity hit people”.
How could he challenge the list prepared by the field officers and was even endorsed by the State Cabinet while recommending relief and rehabilitation package for the earthquake hit people of erstwhile Doda district on the analogy of natural calamity hit people of Ladakh region? the Congress MLA asked.
He demanded inquiry against the then Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar for denying relief to the earthquake affected people.
Keeping in view the concern expressed by the Congress MLA, the Chair directed the Government to seek status report from the present Deputy Commissioner so that justice could be provided to the earthquake hit people.
