JAMMU, Dec 24 : Organized by Dogri Sanstha, premier show of a brilliantly made documentary film on life and contribution of Prof Ram Nath Shashtri, the colossal of Dogri, was the highlight of function that marked celebrations of 9th Dogri Manta Din (Dogri Recognition Day), at Computer Sciences Auditorium, University of Jammu, here today.
Produced by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, written by well known Dogri writer Chhatarpal and directed by Sudesh Verma, the documentary film being a comprehensive exposition of Prof Ram Nath Shashtri’s life in context of Dogra milieu, culture and aspiration of the race, came out as a befitting tribute to the doyen of Dogri who through life long dedication and resolve resurrected Dogri as one of the modern languages of the country. The film for its artistic and technical merit was highly appreciated by the audience who congratulated Sudesh Verma, the director, and other members of the team present on the occasion.
Celebrating the day when on December 22, 2003, Dogri was included in Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution, today’s function started with Prof Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha, welcoming galaxy of writers, poets, intellectuals and scholars of Dogri and other languages.
He said that Constitutional recognition has opened new vistas for Dogri language but at the same time entrusted new responsibilities upon the Dogras. He stressed to adopt an open approach to integrated Dogri with day to day business of life like education, business and commerce, information technology, science and media. He also stressed upon the essentiality of Government patronage in development of Dogri and other regional languages.
Presiding over the function, Prof M P S Ishar, Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu, while appreciating the contribution of Prof Ram Nath Shashtri, said the growth of the language is related with development of the people. He said Dogri Department of Jammu University is also contributing for the development of the language.
Earlier noted singer Darmesh Nargotra and Jasminder Kour presented three Dogri songs which enthralled the audience. The singers were accompanied by Rakesh Anand on flute, Darbari Lal on dholak, Joginder Pal on tabla, Vikas Nagar on guitar and Sunil Mehra on synthesizer. Prof Veena Gupta, general secretary, Dogri Sanstha, gave the vote of thanks.
