JAMMU, July 31: An impressive function was held at Jagti by Sanjeevni Sharda Kendra, Jammu and Kashmir Centre for Advanced Research & Development and Change as part of celebrations of Amrit Maha Ustav to commemorate those unsung heroes who laid their lives for nation during freedom struggle.
Rich tribute were paid to freedom fighter and humanist late Pt Jagarnath Watel who was a peasant leader of South Kashmir of District Anantnag and fought during Independence.
“The commitment for upliftment of poor and downtrodden and liberation of masses from exploitation was in his DNA and even a cynic can vouch for that,” said the speakers while lauding Pt Watel’s contribution and highlighting the multidimensional aspects of his great personality.
They also termed him to be a social activist, great Sanskrit scholar of Hindu culture, philosophy and literature.
On the occasion, Sharda Kendra also felicitated the wife of late freedom fighter in recognition of his services and his contribution to the society. Other members of the family relatives and followers were also present on the occasion.
