Sanjay Dutt released from Yerawada Jail after 42-months

Actor Sanjay Dutt was released from Pune’s Yerwada jail today after serving 42 months in prison, following his conviction in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. The 56-year-old walked out of jail about eight months ahead of time – the reprieve was granted on grounds of good behaviour. A petition was filed in the Bombay High Court yesterday challenging Sanjay Dutt’s early release, alleging that the actor was getting preferential treatment. The actor’s ‘frequent’ paroles and furloughs were criticised as many suggested that the Bollywood actor and son of late actor and Union Minister Sunil Dutt was getting ”favours” from the government. Between May 2013 and 2014, Mr Dutt had spent over 118 days out of prison.  (Agencies)
