JAMMU, Oct 29: Sanjay Kumar Baru, Councillor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) raised issues of people in his ward especially unplanned drains and other unplanned works hampering development and maintenance of ward with Avny Lavasa, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) during her extensive tour of Ward No. 41 along with JMC officials and Tehsildar Jammu (West) on invitation of local Councillor.
He highlighted issues of areas like KC, Hazuri Bagh in which there are around 200 flats and more than 600 houses. He said that the water of all the area gets collected in the lanes and other vacant plots as the drains get clogged due to their unplanned construction as there is no proper outlet of drainage water. He said that the area was included with Ward No. 41 sometime after the demarcation of the Wards in 2008-09 and no sanitary work has been done in the area for many years.
Baru also said that the areas like Surya Vihar, Anand Nagar etc. are also sufferers of the same issue. He said that all the drains pour drainage water into the Canal tributary which then distributes the unhygienic water into the adjoining fields and often into the homes of certain local inhabitants. He said that apparently there is total chaos of the sanitary measures that exist on the ground. He said that on one hand we are extensively working on the “Swacch Bharat Mission” and developing Jammu as high tech “Smart City”, but on the ground the public is forced to face the official apathy on the very basic issue of sanitization and related measures.
Baru further said that the issue of remodeling and upgradation of Durga Nagar nallah from Akhnoor road to Kabir Nagar, Talab Tillo and construction of deep drain and Nallah from Dewan Breweries Bohri (Talab Tillo road) upto its outfall via KC Hazuri Bagh in Nallah has already been taken up and asked the Commissioner for the quick disposal of the same.
During her tour of the area, Avny Lavasa listened to the issues raised by Sanjay Kumar Baru and assured him of prompt intervention on the issues.
