Sania elated to get the Khel Ratna award

NEW DELHI : Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza expressed her delight after the Sports ministry  confirmed that the tennis ace would be conferred the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award today.

Talking to reporters here yesterday, Sania said, “It is an honour for me on being awarded the country’s highest sporting award.”

Sania, who will become the second player after Leander Paes to receive the Khel Ratna award, said, ” I am thankful to the Ministry of Sports who recommended my name for this prestigious award.”

President Pranab Mukherjee will present the Khel Ratna and other sports awards today at a function at the Rastrapati Bhavan.
