Sangam Theatre Group stages ‘Ek Akeli Aurat’

REASI, Aug 29: Sangam Theatre Group Reasi presented Hindi play ‘Ek Akeli Aurat’ here at STG Theatre Studio.
The play was originally written by Spanish and translated in Hindi by Himanshu. The play was directed by Akram Khan.
Ajit Kumar, renowned theatre personality from Patna (CCRT), was the chief guest on the occasion while Ashwani Katoch was the guest of honour. BS Sharma, STG president, presided over the function.
The story revolves around a lady who is talkative and loves company but is confined in a house by her chauvinist husband. She feels lonely and looks for company with all sorts of means in the house. She has two children and a perverted brother-in-law who is restricted to a wheelchair.
She keeps chatting, exclaiming with her neighbour demonstrating her emotions with extreme measures to save her sanity. She is haunted by a crank caller, a money lender, a young lover and also exploited by her brother-in-law. Anger, frustration, restlessness, hope, regret, guilt and determination define her inner turmoil.
‘Ek Akeli Aurat’ is a testimony to the human spirit and demonstrates what we are all capable of doing when pushed to the limit of our patience. A character is found seldom in the society which is bold, beautiful and brave.
The adaptation of the script by Sanjogita Mishra to the modern day’s perspectives was well taken by the audience. The play was presented under the financial assistance by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages for the year 2012-13.
Over one hour solo performance was given by a well known actor of the State, Barkha Thakur, who is associated with Sangam Theatre Group Reasi while Makeup was done by Rama Jamwal. Music of the play was designed by Raja Amir Khan, Costumes were designed by Rekha Devi, Set was executed by Anam Khan and Lights were handled by Rakesh Kumar.
