JAMMU, June 12: Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo today reviewed the physical and financial achievements recorded under various welfare schemes in Jammu region here at a meeting.
The meeting was attended by District Programme Officers, District Social Welfare Officers and other senior officers.
While reviewing the implementation of various welfare schemes, the Minister was briefed about the steps taken for clearance of pending pensions cases under various categories, opening of new Anganwari Centres sanctioned by Government of India ‘On Demand’, repair of hostels and sanction of scholarship to SC, ST and OBC students.
Ms Itoo, had detailed review of the schemes like ISSS, IGNOAPS, IGNWPS, IGNDPS, NFBS, CSSS, Aam Admi Bhima Yojna, pre & post metric scholarship, ICDS, Kishori Shakti Yojna, RGSEAG-SABLA and IGMSY.
The Director Social Welfare Department Jammu informed the meeting that under ISSS, IGNOAPS, IGNWPS, IGNDPS, NFBS and CSSS schemes, 205173 beneficiaries were provided an assistance of Rs.7572.399 lakh till March 2013.
He also informed that 6553 ISSS, 6161 IGNOAPS, 351 IGNWPS and 196 IGNDPS beneficiaries have been added against weed out cases, while under Aam Adami Bhima Yojna, 28990 beneficiaries were covered involving an expenditure Rs.29 lakh till date. He also gave a detailed account of beneficiaries and expenditure under pre & post metric scholarship schemes.
The Minister directed the Director to personally monitor the working of various wings of the Department. She also asked Director to closely monitor the quality of nutrition supplied to the Anganwari centers.
She asked the department to procure the nutrition items through e-tendering to ensure transparency. She also asked the District Social Welfare officers to conduct frequent tours in their respective areas to inspect the Anganwari Centers and to check the quality of nutrition provided to the children. He also asked them to take feedback from sarpanchs and panchs of the area.
Other important issues discussed in the meeting were disbursement of scholarship to SC and ST students.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms Itoo said that Government was committed to effective implementation of all welfare schemes and to ensure that the targeted lot gets the benefits.
Underscoring the importance of various welfare programmes aimed at to bring a healthy change in the living condition of poor and needy, Ms Sakina highlighted the role of the department in the implementation and monitoring of the welfare schemes. She asked the departmental functionaries to make every effort to ensure that the benefits reach to the targeted population.
