Sagar asks officers to get feedback on PRIs empowerment

SRINAGAR, June 15: Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar today directed that the orders of empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions be strictly adhered to.
The Minister was speaking at a high level meeting convened to oversee the status of implementation of the empowerment of the Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State for making them part of governance at the gross root level.
Stressing upon the officers to monitor the orders of empowerment of Panchs and Sarpanchs down the line, Sagar said that a comprehensive road map should be prepared within 15 days for getting adequate feedback from the PRIs as well as different departments so that bottlenecks if any can be effectively removed.
Referring to the holding of elections to the Block Development Councils, the Minister said that preparations in this behalf are being made and the same would be held within the shortest possible time so that the third tire of the Panchayati Raj is put in place. “We are committed to put in place a viable and vibrant 3 tier system of Panchayati Raj system so that effective decentralization of powers is ensured and people at gross root level are involved in day to day governance”, the Minister added.
The Minister also directed the officers to get the requisite feedback from the Additional District Development Commissioners, who have recently been asked to act as Nodal Officers for PRIs and different departments about the status of implementation of the recent orders of the Government for empowerment of Panchs and Sarpanchs in respect of 14 vital departments.
Principal Secretary Home, B. R. Sharma, Commissioner Secretary Law Ghulam Hassan Tantray, Commissioner Secretary Rural Development Farooq Ahmed Peer and other senior officers were present.
