SRINAGAR, Aug 12: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar has directed the officers to accelerate the developmental works undertaken by the Government for ensuring the sustained development of the Srinagar city.
The Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting convened to discuss the status of developmental works undertaken for ensuring beautification and development of Srinagar.
Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department, Jeet Lal Gupta, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr. G. N. Qasba and senior officers of different departments like LAWDA. UEED, R&B, PHE, PDD and district administration were present.
Mr. Sagar impressed upon the officers to ensure timely completion of various projects so that the people living in the city get benefitted from these. He said that the Government has undertaken several mega projects for ensuring sustained development of the Srinagar city and the executing agencies and departments should ensure that they are completed within the stipulated time frame.
The Minister also directed the officers to take up the Khankah-i-Moulla beautification project at an earliest so that the shrine can be renovated wherever required and the catchment areas of it be also taken up for development on heritage pattern. He said that the several historic areas have already been identified by the Government for developing the same on heritage pattern so that the whole city comes up as a focal point for the tourists coming to visit the state which would also go a long way in boosting the trade and other related economic activities.
Mr. Sagar also asked the officers to speed up the work on the city gate project being undertaken by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation. He further directed the officers to ensure that the name of important places of the city should be engraved which would serve as a reference point to the tourists coming to visit the historic city.
The Minister also directed the concerned to undertake the work on various STPs being constructed so that the water bodies do not get contaminated and the ecology of the same and the areas around them are maintained. He also asked the officers to carry out the works on various connecting bridges in and around the Miskeen Bagh and Bagh-i-Roopsingh for the general convenience of the people living in these areas.
