JAMMU, Mar 4: The protesting Safai Karamcharis in Udhampur and Reasi suspended their indefinite strike following assurance by the Urban Local Bodies to positively consider their demands within a month.
Protesting under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh, these Safai Karamcharis are demanding uniforms, jobs under SRO-43, implementation of 7th Pay Commission, release of two and half day salary arrears and a room for their sitting arrangement.
The six-day long strike by the Safai Karamcharis has caused multiple problems in both Reasi and Udhampur where heaps and garbage were seen littered here and there emanating foul smell from everywhere.
In Katra town, Youth Association members came forward to lift the garbage. Volunteers joined hands and personally removed the garbage from main market to fountain Chowk, last night.
