Safai Karamcharis’ strike continues

RAJOURI, June 26: All the `Safai Karamcharis  engaged  by the Municipal Committee Rajouri continued their strike on the second consecutive day today to lodge their protest against the non-payment of their wages for the last four months.
All the members of  MCR Safai Karamchari Union, under the leadership of Munshi Khan and Rafiq Hussain struck their routine work and assembled at the Town Hall complex and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the  Municipal Committee officers, Minister concerned and Director Local Bodies, Jammu. They were demanding their wages pending for the last over four months.
These agitating and helpless  Safai Karamcharis alleged that last month they had met Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri in this connection and the DC had  assured that they will get their pending wages in June but unfortunately entire month has gone and only five days are left, the Safai Karamcharis have not been paid their wages. They said their families are at the verge of starvation due to non-payment of  their wages. They are unable to run their kitchen and meet day- today expenses. They have warned to intensify agitation.
Meanwhile, heaps of garbage in the Rajouri town were seen scattered all around and the public was suffering. The drains have choked and the in view of suspension of work by the Safai- Karamcharis the general public has been put to risk to their health.
