JAMMU, Feb 9: Safai Karamcharis staged protest at Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital, demanding end of contract system and release of their salary on regular basis.
Raising slogans in support of their demands, a large number of Safai Karamcharis today held demonstration at main entrance of the old building and then inside the hospital premises. They also closed the entrance of the Hospital by laying big tree branches at Old Hospital gate.
They demanded the Government to end the contract system and release their salary on regular basis. “We have been working here for last 15-20 years. Earlier, we used to get salary timely but since the contract system has been started, we are not getting salaries timely,” said Rajni, a protesting Safai Karamchari.
She said they have given their lives to the hospital and now they are overage and can’t get other job. “Since the Hospital was designated for Corona patients, we are not getting our salaries timely. From last 3-4 months, we are without salaries,” she added.
Another protesting Safai Karamchari said that many among them infected with Coronavirus but they keep giving their services without any interruption but the authorities are not releasing their salaries.
The protesting Safai Karamcharis appealed the higher authorities of the Health Department to end contract system and release their salary on time.
