Safai Karamcharis’ indefinite strike enters 4th day

UDHAMPUR, Mar 4: Continuing their indefinite protest dharna, the Safai Karamcharis of Municipal Committee Udhampur today threatened to further intensify their struggle if the Government does not concede their demands.
Protesting under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh Udhampur and observing dharna in front of the office of Municipal Committee Udhampur, they are demanding regularization in relaxation to the new recruitment rules for the Class IV jobs, including Safai Karamcharis and Drivers.
Girdhari Lal, Urban Local Body working president J&K and Kaka Husan president Municipal Udhampur led the protesters.
“The strike will continue till Government concedes demands of the Safai Karamcharis, who are frontline warriors but facing discrimination and apathy of the administration,”said Girdhari Lal.
He reiterated the demand for allotment of Plots for all Safai Karamcharis of J&K (3 to 5 marlas) in easy installments, stopping of implementation of SRO 120 from immediate effect, stopping of privatization of Safai Karamcharis of J&K and said that the Safai Karamcharis, Driver, peons etc have been working for the last 20-25 years but as per the new rules, they are not eligible for the interview.
Seeking regularization of all the daily wager Safai Karamcharis, he also demanded implementation of minimum wages policy as per other UTs, settlement of all pending cases under SRO 43, room for Safai Karamcharis in all Municipal Committees, clearance of pending arrears of 7th Pay Commission to all employees, NPS card and details of all Safai Karamcharis, grant of extra two and half days wages to all Safai Karamcharis, etc.
